Solidworks 2020 Sp5 › 〈NEWEST〉

In the fast-paced world of Computer-Aided Design (CAD), the release of a specific Service Pack often signals a simple routine of bug fixes and minor tweaks. However, the release of SolidWorks 2020 SP5 was a landmark event that stood apart from the usual monthly updates. It represented not just the maturation of the 2020 release cycle, but a significant shift in the software’s hardware architecture, marking the end of an era for one of the industry's most popular operating systems.

For users running Windows 10, SolidWorks 2020 SP5 offered optimized performance, ensuring that the software took full advantage of the updated OS architecture without alienating the massive user base still clinging to Windows 7. While Service Packs are primarily about fixing issues, they also refine the new features introduced in the base version. SolidWorks 2020 introduced a host of workflow improvements that were polished to a shine by the time SP5 rolled around. Let’s look at the standout features that SolidWorks 2020 SP5 users enjoy. 1. Envelope Publisher and Enhanced Large Assembly Management One of the most touted features of the 2020 release was the Envelope Publisher . This tool allows users to easily select components and turn them into envelopes—simplified representations of parts that reduce file size and graphical overhead. solidworks 2020 sp5

In SolidWorks 2020 SP5, the stability of this feature was significantly improved. It became a reliable tool for users working with massive assemblies. By using envelopes, designers could isolate specific areas of a complex machine without loading the full geometry into memory, drastically improving the speed of opening and saving large projects. For users working with imported geometry, scanned data, or simulation meshes, SolidWorks 2020 introduced enhanced mesh modeling capabilities. SP5 refined the "Mesh Prep Wizard" and the ability to convert mesh data into solid geometry. This workflow was notoriously clunky in previous years, but the refinements in the 2020 cycle made it a viable option for reverse engineering and working with complex organic shapes. 3. Detailing Mode: Instant Drawings Drawing creation is often the bottleneck in the design process. SolidWorks 2020 introduced Detailing Mode , a game-changer for large drawings. This mode allows users to open a drawing without loading the referenced 3D models. Users can add dimensions, notes, and balloons In the fast-paced world of Computer-Aided Design (CAD),

This creates a unique legacy for this specific software build. Organizations that were slow to transition to Windows 10 found themselves locked into SolidWorks 2020 SP5. Even years later, legacy machines running specialized hardware that requires Windows 7 drivers are often tethered to this specific version of the software. This makes SP5 a vital "bridge" release—one foot in the legacy past and one foot in the modern computing future. For users running Windows 10, SolidWorks 2020 SP5

For nearly a decade, Windows 7 was the preferred operating system for engineering workstations. It was stable, lightweight compared to Windows 8 and 10, and offered a familiar interface. However, as Microsoft officially ended support for Windows 7 in January 2020, CAD software developers had to follow suit.

I do not have a detailed tutorial for Cinerender. I’ve done some training on basic settings and options for the Best Practices Course. At some point I may make a free tutorial, after I’ve gotten a bit more experience with these new rendering tools.

I have some explanations of how to prepare images in Photoshop with alpha channel masking for use inside ArchiCAD in my tutorial:

John – The Best Practices Course is a comprehensive curriculum that includes advanced tools such as what you mentioned (shell tool, curtain walls, printing and layout, morph tool, etc.). The cost is $697 USD, with an extended payment plan available; you may purchase this at https://www.acbestpractices.com.
There is a dedicated course for Cinerender available as part of the Masters of ARCHICAD Training Series at http://mastersofarchicad.com/training-series/. We do not have a course for Cinema 4D itself, just for the rendering components that are available within ARCHICAD.

Hi Gary – The Best Practices Course has been developed over an extended period, with videos recorded using different versions of ARCHICAD. When you sign up, you’ll get access to this comprehensive curriculum as well as dedicated sections for new features introduced into ARCHICAD 21 and other recent upgrades. You’ll have everything you need to get up to speed on ARCHICAD 21. Note that I’m planning to rework some of the lessons this year; you’ll get access to these as I release them.
