The practice of "sati," although now outlawed, was a tragic example of the extreme societal pressures faced by Indian women in the past.
The problem of domestic violence, in particular, is a serious concern, with many women facing physical, emotional, and psychological abuse at the hands of their partners or family members. The #MeToo movement has highlighted the prevalence of sexual harassment and assault in Indian workplaces and institutions.
